About the Costa Blanca

The World Health Organization has specifically named the southern part of the Costa Blanca as one of the healthiest places to live in the world today. In addition to approximately 320 days of sunshine per year, the beautiful mountain range helps to create a very unique local climate.

There are two main regions in the Costa Blanca, South Costa Blanca and North Costa Blanca.

South Costa Blanca is from Alicante airport down to Murcia, which includes: Torrevieja, Ciudad Quesada, Cabo Roig, Santa Pola, Orihuela Costa and many more small towns and villages. North Costa Blanca, includes; Denia, Calpe, Benidorm, Javea, Orba and Jalon Valleys and more.

Costa Blanca South

The southern towns have beautiful coastlines – with miles of sandy beaches, palm tree forests and salt lakes. There is a bigger expat population in the South – particularly around places like Torrevieja, Ciudad Quesada and Villamartin and golfers are spoilt for choice. The southern half of the Costa Blanca also offers a large selection of beautiful Blue Flag beaches, pink salt lakes, superb sports opportunities and some great summer festivals.

Costa Blanca North

Head north from Alicante airport, and the terrain is lusher and more mountainous. Many more lemon, orange, olives, almond and cherry trees and plants are cultivated here and exported worldwide. It consists of larger resorts like Calpe and Benidorm to small market towns like Benitachell and Pedreguer, this charming part of the Costa Blanca has something for everyone and is particularly popular with walkers and hikers.

The sandy beaches, rugged mountain ranges, country landscapes and small villages of the Costa Blanca all provide stunning scenic views and a peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy one of the healthiest places on earth. You can start your day with a trip to your local street market where you can buy fruit and vegetables straight from the farmers themselves, organic options are readily available as well.

There are countless golf courses, walking paths and hiking trails awaiting those who wish to explore the region by foot. There are also many organized walking and cycling groups, which are a great way to meet new people.

One of the Healthiest places to live on earth

Surrounding Torrevieja there are two large salt lakes “Laguna de la Mata” and “Salinas de San Miguel”, which play a significant role in creating this fantastic climate and offerring additional health benefits. They are said to be two of the largest salt lakes in Europe and have a beautiful pink colour to them, this is where a lot of sea salt is produced and exported.

The high concentration of salt and iodine in the air, together with the temperature, creates a special microclimate that is renown by medical specialists for its health bringing properties, in particular for heart disease, skin disorders, rheumatism, bronchial illnesses and arthritis.  There are numerous health benefits of spending time in this area, and many well documented cases of people suffering from illnesses such as arthritis, rheumatism, and skin disorder like psoriasis for example, that experience almost instantaneous pain relief and regain mobility for spending some time here.

Sunlight can really work miracles, and there is a well-known correlation between warm sunny climates and happy people. A deficiency of vitamin D can not only lead to fatigue, weakness, low immune system, aches and pains, but it has also been seen in people suffering from depression and stress related conditions. The “sunshine vitamin” is also said to be associated with a reduced risk of flu, diabetes and it is important in promoting healthy pregnancies.

With the Costa Blanca having a large amount of tourists and expats, it is not hard to find professional translators or local people who can speak your language.  There are also a large variety of language schools where you can learn Spanish if you wish.  Most professional businesses here either have employees who speak multiple languages or have access to translators should you require.

With al fresco dinning, beautiful landscapes, golf courses, beaches, food and culture it´s not hard to see why this is such a popular region for people who want to explore or de-stress from everyday pressures of life. Many people decide to move here or buy holiday homes so that they can continue to benefit from the healthy lifestyle that the area provides.
